September 29, 2016
On September 28, 2016, both the House of Representatives and the Senate passed a continuing resolution ("CR") to maintain level funding of all government programs through December 9. Both chambers then quickly adjourned so that Members of Congress could get back on the campaign trail.
This means that we have just a few short weeks to influence whether TRIO will receive a $60 million increase in the final funding legislation that Congress will negotiate in early December. (You will recall that the House Appropriations Committee requested a $60 million funding increase for TRIO while the Senate Appropriations Committee requested a funding increase of $0 — that is, the same funding level as last year.)
Right now, no one knows who will control the White House and each chamber of Congress, so all of your legislators will be out in your communities and townhall meetings, open forums, etc., and eager to meet with students, families, educators, and others. This is your prime opportunity to get legislators to visit your programs — meetings students, alumni, parents, and institutional officials — and allow them to see first-hand the work done by TRIO programs.
Remember — you don't have to do this alone! COE is here to help you!!!
