SAEOPP Celebrates Its 45th Anniversary in Mobile, AL

February 16, 2017

As the home of the Original Mardi Gras, Mobile, Alabama served as the festive backdrop to the 45th Annual Conference of the Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (SAEOPP). From February 12-15, 2017, more than 300 college access and success professionals from across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee participated in instructional workshops, community service and fundraising, along with social activities in honor of region’s “sapphire” anniversary. The theme of “Wisdom, Strength & Hope” rang throughout the conference as attendees enjoyed several engaging sessions, including a keynote address by TRIO alumna and higher education leader, Gwendolyn Boyd, and reflections on the new political reality by COE President Maureen Hoyler, COE President Emeritus Arnold Mitchem, and Robert Belle, former Director of the Office of Federal TRIO Programs. At the conclusion of the conference, SAEOPP installed Selena Blair as its 2017-2019 President. In addition to serving as the Opportunity Network Director at the University of South Carolina-Upstate, Ms. Blair is a proud alumna of the TRIO Talent Search program and declared “United and Unstoppable...It's All About U!!” to be the theme for her administration.
