Department of Education Pauses Income Verification for Academic Year 2021-22

The U.S. Department of Education announced today that the FAFSA verification process will not ask for income data for the 2021-22 academic year, due to COVID-19 pandemic hardships. The Department will still complete the verification process for identity fraud, statement of educational purpose, and high school completion. Institutions may apply this waiver no matter where they are in the verification process. Today's welcome change will ease the process of verification for many TRIO students in higher education. We know that the income verification process has a particular barrier our TRIO students as well as other student from low-income and marginalized backgrounds.
