Aaron Brown is a first-generation TRIO alumnus who earned a Ph.D. in Public Affairs from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Brown has 20 years of higher education experience serving in a variety of roles, including assistant vice provost, associate dean for student development and achievement, director of TRIO Student Support Services, first-year experience instructor, and elected member of the faculty senate. Through the submission of multiple federal and local grants, Brown has secured millions of dollars across three institutions to help low-income students, first-generation students, and students with disabilities achieve college access and success. He is a past president and founding board member of the Washington State TRIO Association, designed and oversaw the development of Central Washington Universities’ inaugural Transfer Center, served as the key visionary behind the Major Pathways Program at UNLV endowed a scholarship for low-income Veterans at Eastern Washington University, and has served as a faculty member for Priority II and Priority IV federal training grants. Before joining the Council as executive vice president, he was the assistant vice provost for academic advising at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he provided leadership and support for the University Advising Center and advised initiatives across the institution, including the collaborative design of an academic advising strategic plan that increased holistic, coordinated care for students.
