About the Scholars Directory

A valuable recruitment tool, allowing graduate school deans and fellowship program directors to contact a cohort of highly talented and motivated students directly

COE and the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) collaborate to produce the national McNair Scholars Directory each year. The Directory is a database of Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program scholars projected to graduate soon. The Directory includes student names, contact information, undergraduate major, the graduate field of interest identified by the GRE taxonomy codes, and undergraduate research presentations. By manipulating the Directory by the GRE codes or by state, Graduate school deans can recruit students interested in a particular study area or from a specific region.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Excel file is password protected to protect student information captured in the McNair Directory. COE distributes the password to accredited post-secondary institutions of higher education and their graduate programs through the Council of Graduate Schools. Please contact Nicole Norfles at [email protected] if you need the password. You must provide a campus and website address to verify identification and state your need for access to the file.

The above password will allow you to access the file in a “read-only” format. You do not need a second password to access the file in this way. You can batch relevant data by sorting on areas of interest or fields of study. Once you have opened the file as “read-only,” save it to a secured directory or folder on your desktop by using the “Save As” function under the “File” tab in Excel. You can manipulate data in the “read-only” version of Butectory. But, you cannot save changes to the original document.

COE asks that you use the Directory appropriately. The Directory is a recruitment tool for graduate programs. It includes students’ fields of interest. Disseminate data in a manageable format to Department Chairs to share with faculty. Do not send out mass messages to students. Reports of abuse will result in future restrictions to the McNair Scholars Directory.

About the Scholars Fee Waiver List

A resource to help McNair Scholars find graduate schools that offer application fee waivers, fellowships, and other opportunities.

COE and CGS compile the List of Graduate Schools That Offer Fee Waivers and Other Opportunities to McNair Scholars each year. We add schools to this list based on results from a survey of graduate school officials. COE sorts the list by state, then by school name. Several schools have many entries on the list due to fee waiver offerings and contact information variances. Some schools have more details on the list than others. We requested a standard set of data from all the schools on this list but we did not require complete responses. The list is not exhaustive. Other graduate schools may offer fee waivers for McNair Scholars.

Who Can Use It

We have made the entire List available, particularly for McNair Directors who may want to add a hard copy to their resource libraries. Please note that the list is extensive (200+ pages), so be wary of unintentionally attempting to print the entire inventory.

McNair Scholars, many schools on The List of Graduate Schools That Offer Fee Waivers and Other Opportunities to McNair Scholars, require McNair Scholars to complete and submit the McNair Scholars Fee Waiver Form as part of their application fee waiver process. You should only send this form to graduate schools that you are applying to, as each respective school specifies, and not to COE or CGS.

Graduate School Officials, if you are a representative of a graduate school that is currently not included in The List of Graduate Schools That Offer Fee Waivers and Other Opportunities to McNair Scholars and would like to add your school to this list, please get in touch with Nicole Norfles at [email protected].
