COE Salutes Deputy Under Secretary as She Enters New Role

Michelle Asha Cooper speaks to an audience of college access and success professionals at COE’s 38th Annual Seminar on Relations with the U.S. Department of Education on March 21, 2022.

Undoubtedly the Biden-Harris Administration has been among the most generous and supportive of the Federal TRIO Programs. This was due in no small part to the presence of leaders like Michelle Asha Cooper. She has served as the Acting Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Higher Education Programs since February 2021.

Dr. Cooper, who previously worked at an Upward Bound program as a student at the College of Charleston, recently ended her tenure at the Department. Beginning in October 2022, Dr. Cooper will join the Lumina Foundation as the Vice President of Policy and the Executive Director of its Washington, DC office.

COE salutes Dr. Cooper for her work in the Department of Education and looks forward to a continued partnership in her new role.
