The 2018 Keith Sherin Global Leaders are now settled in Salamanca, where they are taking courses, learning Spanish, eating tapas, and visiting cathedrals and monuments. They are studying at the University of Salamanca, which this year celebrates its 800th anniversary. Escorting the group are Evelyn Rivera-Torres, former COE Board Chair and director, Talent Search, University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras; Jorge Martinez Santiago, former COE Board Treasurer and director, Talent Search, Fordham University, and Emmanuel Macias, Student Support Services educational advisor, Western Oregon University.
The 24 participants were chosen from a national applicant pool of TRIO college participants and pre-college alumni. Two students, Nataliya McCoy of North Hennepin Community College in Minneapolis, MN, and Starasea Camara of Minneapolis Community and Technical College, received a federal Benjamin Gilman Scholarship to support their study abroad.
